I’m posting as I would like some advice from established day traders on starting out. My reasons - I have a modest amount of savings and checking the monthly interest made me decide I really need to do something with some of this money as opposed to just waiting for an interest rate increase. I finished my MBA 2 years ago so I’m hoping a little bit of knowledge will help me get started day trading, or maybes it won’t! I have been looking at apps, articles etc but I have started losing patience with the sheer amount “adverticles” pushing me towards this new amazing app, site, service. I do have a few questions I would like to ask and hoping reddit might be able to help with this. I understand trading is complicated and risky and I’m not planning on taking much risk until I have upgraded my knowledge.
Tablet / laptop / mobile app - is it possible to trade on each or is it worth investing in a decent computer and using that?
Suggested reads? - I’m flicking around various articles but I would really like to find some uk based reading (I’m an ft subscriber so any particular people to follow)
Markets - which markets should I be paying most attention to ? I’m interested in FOREX but Always interested in suggestions.

In terms of the best “Return on Investment”, Is it better to work on getting a really high paying job in Finance or get an average job and using the free time to invest in other income generating operations such as personal investing, real-estate and rental property etc.
I’m currently a University student majoring in Finance in my last year of school. I’ve been doing a lot of research lately in terms of what options will provide me with the highest income in the future and would like some suggestion or advice in terms of what will provide me with the greatest ROI relative to the associated risks and benefits. I initially wanted to get into IB or AM but not from a target school so ya’ll already know where this is going.. Option 1. At this point, my first option would be to work in Corporate Finance, primarily in a FP & A, Credit Analyst or some type of valuation and advisory role. Because I have little to no work experience, I plan on increasing my excel and modelling skills through the “FMVA” or Wall Street Prep”. And hopefully gaining additional experience through either an internship or volunteering for free in some finance type position. Now if I plan on moving up the ranks and maybe get a shot in IB or Corp Dev.. I will have to also take either the CFA or MBA down the road. Option 1: Estimated income of $100k - $200k+ within a 3-6yr time frame. If I’m a senior FP & A, Finance manager or land a position in IB or AM by then. ————————————————————— Option 2. Get a normal finance job paying maybe around $50k a year or work as an FP&A, same route as above but Disregard the CFA and MBA. And instead of pursuing these additional time consuming and costly designations in order to advance through the Corp ladder, I can Allocate a certain % of annual income into side operations such as personal investing in terms of equities, small cap, forex trading. After 2-3years, hopefully after saving, I’ll have enough capital to invest in real-estate/rental property as well. Option 2 will hopefully provide me with 3 streams of income, 2 of which are residual streams of income. 5-6years time frame. $200k+ potentially more if I get lucky with my personal investments. Expand once these operations are more established. Anyways, which of these 2 options will provide me with the best ROI relative to the risks and benefits associated to each? Any other thoughts on each of these 2 options? It really comes down to using my free time off work to either gain additional credentials to advance my career or invest in other income generating operations. Should I buy the 2020 Air or wait for the upcoming Pro?
Hello everyone, sorry for the long text in advance. I’m a student who will be enrolling in college next year (doing language studies rn). I need help with choosing between buying the 2020 MBA or waiting for the upcoming MBP, to be completely honest I’m a rather casual user so I don’t edit photos/videos, but I’m rather interested on 1080p video editing on iMovie in the future. Other than that all I do is web browsing, youtube, and I also open a lot of windows because I do a lot of Forex/Stocks chart technical analysis on Tradingview (usually around 5 windows at the same time). My main concern with the MBA is the heat throttling issues, I’m not exactly sure how true it is but I saw a lot of people on youtube saying that it’s quite bad but some of the comments and in some of the videos people have stated that it’s normal. I’ve had a MBA from around 2016/2017 myself back home and I liked it a lot and didn’t have issues with it, though to be fair I only used it to stream movies and watch youtube. Can anyone who already owns the 2020 Air please give an honest review. As for the Pro the problem is that on top of having to wait for it to even be announced, I think that it’ll be overkill for me and I’d like to save some money for other stuff. I’m not in a hurry right now because I still have my windows laptop but it’s a gaming laptop so it’s quite heavy and chunky to carry around. Thank you.

Cassette support has been added or fixed for a number of systems, the Dragon Speech Synthesis module has been emulated, and the Dragon Sound Extension module has been fixed. Acorn Archimedes video, sound and joystick support has been greatly improved. On the arcade side, remaining issues in Capcom CPS-3 video emulation have been resolved and CD images have been upgraded to CHD version 5, Sega versus cabinet billboard support has been added to relevant games, and long-standing issues with music tempo in Data East games have been worked around. I'm considering a switch into finance with the long-term goal of achieving a Portfolio Manager position (at a quant or quantamental fund), and I would like to know what steps to take or if this is even possible (e.g. MBA/MS Finance/MS Financial Engineering, ==> Analyst position, ???) B.S. Chemical Engineering, Texas A&M University, graduated 2013. Honors society officer (top 25% of class GPA).
Avid investor. Traded my first option at 16 and more active now than ever. Currently, I manage my own money in a long/short equities portfolio expressed through both stock and options, but have experience with futures and forex as well.
Currently earning about $160k, but would be willing to take a sizeable haircut on pay just to get into this field. I'm basically obsessed with researching the markets and optimizing my investing strategies. Strong emphasis and data and process, which would fit nicely with a Quant fund of some type. Investing is basically the only thing in my life that distracts me from my current job.
Strong understanding of options pricing models and probabilistic approaches to trading.

This has built deep industry expertise in seeing what a successful tech company look like inside-out, as well as broad industry expertise from my customer engagements across most other industries. Obviously, I also have strong sales and technical acumen because I'm the technical resource in the sales cycle. The product I sell exposes me to advanced analytical methods, including some machine learning applications. I enjoy selling and would be happy with the sales aspects of raising capital as part of the job.

Currently studying financial statements analysis, financial modeling, and python data science in my spare time. I'm an avid learner and I'm pretty confident I can learn anything I put my mind to in this field (excluding the PhD-level quant materials, though that's not the position I'm after).

After listening to countless episodes of podcast interviews like "Invest Like the Best" and others, and hearing all the traits of successful Portfolio Managers and Investing Firms, I'm starting to get that lingering feeling that this is where I would be most engaged and successful in my career. Whether it's opinion pieces or published studies, I just find it endlessly fascinating.
Hi everyone! Taken a few big life decisions lately and thought I would share them here as they have a lot to do with FIRE. I guess you could call me CoastFI. Mid-30s DINK couple working in Mumbai, have been in India all my working life. No NRI story here! Spouse and I are both MBAs. The personal bit Have dreamed about taking a year off to go backpacking ever since I was 25. Given the corporate culture – was too afraid to do that till now. I have not yet reached my FIRE target the way I defined it 3 years ago. But I’ve decided to take a break and resign to go backpacking for a year. Had dreamed of a few trips for years – plan on travelling from Bombay to Beijing completely overland – through trains and buses. This was not possible till 2018 when Myanmar opened up their visa policy. Also dream of doing the Camino Santiago – it is a 500 km pilgrimage that starts from France and ends in western Spain. Both these trips will take a few months minimum so there was no way I could do them while working in the corporate world. I also want to travel to South America. I resigned from my job last week. My organization is trying to retain me by offering a new role. They have also offered to give me a 3 month sabbatical. Let’s see how it goes – I am not going to accept anything unless it is in writing. The sabbatical is being promised with too many conditions so I don’t think I am going to accept it – for example they are asking that I go on the sabbatical from April 2020 – unfortunately that means I won’t be able to do the Bombay to Beijing trip because it will be very bad weather in Myanmar at the time – so am going to wait and watch without having too high expectations. I will come back in a year and find a job. Got a call from a few recruiters and I explained my situation – they asked me to contact them once I am back so they can share any opportunities. My boss from my old company now works in E-com and has offered me a job on my return as well. My spouse will continue to work here – they recently rejoined their old boss and mentor at a job that really excites them. Till a few months ago we planned on taking the trip together but now that they got this job offer we took the joint decision for me to take this trip solo. Maybe we will take a joint trip together at 40! My spouse is incredibly supportive and has always been. I’m very very grateful that I have them on my side. The financial bit We are at 35X of normal expenses (current expenses – some buffer for Mumbai rents) and 44X of LeanFire expenses (normal expenses – discretionary travel expenses). My target is 45X of normal expenses for final FIRE. I also want to save up for a medical emergency corpus for me and my spouse, as well as for my spouse's parents who are dependent on us. The split is about 65:35 between me : my spouse (mainly because I saved about 75% right from my first job). All our corpus is from our savings from our job – no inheritance, no side hustles, no off-site, nothing. Most of our funds are in equity and debt funds, with a big chunk in VPF. Due to some past mistakes I have too much in debt (little more than 60%) and am slowly moving into equity. Not included in this corpus – my spouse also has a house in Tier 3 city bought for their parents (about 30 lacs). No plans on buying a house – we have both my spouse’s house and my parent’s house (I am an only child). We are consciously childfree, so no kid’s marriage and education goals as well. I plan on funding the trip mainly through my holdings in arbitrage funds (have a fair amount in this because I had invested in these pre-LTCG). I have got myself a NiYo card as it has zero forex fees. Will keep a few other cards as backup as well. I still have not found a good travel insurance which will cover me for such a long period. I also do not have clarity on how my VPF will be taxed in this period. A very rough estimate yields a cost of about 1.5 lacs per month for my trip. It can go lower as well because a lot of my trip is overland and I am used to budget travel – however since I am solo, would not like to compromise on safety either. This will be a dent on our corpus – but since my spouse will continue to earn and save in this period, that’s not too bad. I have personally always been a good student, Type A personality, very risk averse by nature. I can be a bit of a workaholic as well. Lately have decided to relax a bit, not be so hard on myself and enjoy life a little. This felt like the right time to do something I had dreamed about for more than a decade. I am honestly a bit nervous – what If I don’t enjoy it! What if I don’t get a good job on my return! But this is a good test run for FIRE. My HR jokingly asked me if this was a midlife crisis and I said that this was a midlife celebration instead! I have been working towards FIRE from 2010. I may not be exactly there, but the time for me to take a new step is here. Wish me luck!
